Getting Started with Visual Asset Manager

Whether you want to do it yourself or would like professional implementation services to help with your asset management project, we offer a full range of services to help get you started.

From basic system requirements; service when you need it; a quick and easy installation process; top-notch training; and ongoing support, you’ll be up and running in no time.

System Requirements

The Web and Enterprise Editions of Visual Asset Manager require:

  • Pentium III processor or higher
  • 500 MB of available hard-drive space, variable depending upon anticipated database size
  • 512 MB of RAM (2 GB recommended)
  • Microsoft® Windows® 2000/XP/2003 32-bit
  • Web Server: Microsoft® IIS 5.0/6.0 with Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, .NET Framework 2.0, and MDAC 2.5 or above

Database requirements include:

  • Microsoft® SQL Server 2005 or higher (E-ISG recommends the Standard Edition or higher; SQL Server Express Advanced Editition with Tools may used)
  • Reports are provided in Crystal Reports format; we include a free viewer with VAM Enterprise
  • Business Objects Crystal Reports® 10 (Optional: required for creating and customizing reports for the network client)
  • Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services® (Optional: required for viewing, creating, and customizing reports for the Web client)

Workstation requirements include:

  • Web clients: Microsoft® Windows® 2000/XP; Internet Explorer 5.x or above
  • Network clients: Microsoft® Windows® 2000/XP; 512 MB of RAM

For the Team Edition, workstation requirements include:

  • Pentium 500 Mhz processor or higher
  • 500 MB of available hard-drive space
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • Microsoft Windows® 2000/XP/2003
  • Microsoft Access® 2000 or 2003

Implementation Made Easy:
Installation Services Walkthrough

This remote training session simplifies the setup of more extensive sites, user groups and user interface customizations.

A E-ISG training representative will provide consultation and assistance to system administrators for the installation and initial configuration of VAM on your chosen server via audio and web conference.

NOTE: Please make sure that the system you plan to use for the install meets the system requirements before the start of the session.

Asset Management Implementation — Standard

E-ISG implementation partners, E-ISG, will conduct a remote training session — a comprehensive package that includes the following:

  • One installation and configuration of VAM Network Client, Web Client and Reports; AND

One of the following:

  • Development of operational plan for inventory and asset management
  • Five custom reports
  • Forms customization using VAM Form Designer (up to five forms)
  • Data import assistance for two data sets
  • Unlimited email support from E-ISG (less than 24-hour response) for the agreement period, plus 30 days beyond the agreement
  • Unlimited telephone support from E-ISG (nine hours/day, five days/week) during agreement period
  • One two-hour VAM user training session, including scanner setup and use
  • One two-hour VAM administrative walkthrough to demonstrate basic functions

Asset Management Implementation — Premium

Our most comprehensive remote training session, also conducted by E-ISG, includes the following:

  • One installation and configuration of VAM Network Client, Web Client and Reports
  • Development of operational plan for inventory and asset management
  • Five custom reports
  • Forms customization
  • Data import assistance for two data sets
  • Unlimited email support from E-ISG (less than 24-hour response) during agreement period, 30 days beyond this agreement
  • Unlimited telephone support from E-ISG (nine hours/day, five days/week) during agreement period
  • One VAM user training session, including scanner setup and use and inventory practices and preparation, including preparation for data import
  • One VAM administrative walkthrough to demonstrate basic functions

Training

We also offer a range of remote training packages designed to give users the confidence and knowledge to effectively use Visual Asset Manager, including specific tracks for system administrators, IT professionals and facilities managers.

Getting Started With Asset Management — System Administrator Training
This session is designed for system administrators who will be deploying and administering the application within your organization.

Our trainer will give an overview of the application from the “user” perspective, and will then explain the details of all administrative options available within the application.

Getting Started With Asset Management — IT Track
This session is designed for IT Asset Managers and shows how to optimize VAM using ITIL methodology. Our implementation partners at E-ISG lead this training session, which is intended for customers who purchase the Mobile Computer Barcode Scanning Module. Training includes:

  • Inspection of the VAM installation
  • Testing the synchronization of Asset Manager Workbench software
  • Admin training to cover use and configuration of scanner, plus publishing scanner data to VAM
  • End user training to cover day-to-day use of scanner
  • Providing an inventory plan template and instruction to the inventory team, and phone support during the inventory effort
  • Master templates for ITIL V3 data collection, as well as IT categories and subcategories

Getting Started With Asset Management — Facilities Track
This session is designed for Facilities Managers and shows you how to optimize Visual Asset Manager when conducting your inventory. Our implementation partners at E-ISG lead the training, intended for customers who purchase the Mobile Computer Barcode Scanning Module. Training includes:

  • Inspection of the VAM installation.
  • Testing the synchronization of Asset Manager Workbench software
  • Admin training to cover use and configuration of scanner, plus publishing of scanner data to VAM
  • End user training to cover day-to-day use of scanner
  • Providing an inventory plan template and instruction to the inventory team, and phone support during the inventory effort
  • Master templates for customizing the categories and subcategories forms

Support and Maintenance Plan
